Golden Plate Awards

We had our first batch of judges from the golden plate awards through today. They seemed quite lovely. Heather took them through the back to see the new kitchen in progress and had a chat.

It was a bit like meeting your inlaws for the first time, everyone is very keen to get on but a bit nervous. Oh well.

That is a big pumpkin Lovey ;)

“I’ve got a big pumpkin.”

Mr Julian

“Thats nice”

“You want me to put up on the bench?”

The most excellent Mr Julian has grown an Atlantic Gaint Pumpkin and well it is.

It took two of us to get it up on the bench, the guessimate of the weight is around the 80kg mark; it felt like it weighed about the same as a roll of chain lock fencing wire.

So soon we will have to chop it up and the plan is to dry out the seeds and hand them out in spring to anyone who wants them. So then we can start The Great Beaufort Pumpkin Show … come one come all! Roll up…. roll up come and see the The Great Beaufort Pumpkin Show lovey’s!!!

Long Black

To state the oblivous is a long black coffee… well sort of.

Then as things generally go when it comes to all things coffee, it just get freakin strange. So a guy walks into the cafe….

“Can I have a long black… with a shot of milk?”

“Aint that a very long Mac?”

“Who you call’in Mac!, Buddy! Shut it and just make the coffee.”

See what I mean just freak’in strange.

Then there is the 3/4 long blacks, coffee shots first “Americano”. Boiling water first then coffee shots, just a long black? So what do you call a long black?

Cafe Latte

Cafe Latte just means coffee with milk, this is a coffee that should never be crap.

Often people come in and order a latte, which I have done often in the past and still do at times… but really we are just asking for milk, which is just a bit wet.

One of the hardest things is getting the temperture right. Some want it HOT, HOT, HOT other, like me want to taste it all in its glory.

The Gypsies’s Caravan, The Wooden Monkey and George

Currently, in the yet to be car park at Sparrow’s; George has parked the The Gypsies’s Caravan he built. It has been floating around Beaufort for a number of years, I think I first saw it about three years ago parked outside George’s house. It has had a number of parking lots around the town since then and now it is with us:)

So Here is a quick FYI

Yes, it is for sale about $20,000 ASD

Yes, it is road worthy

Yes, it can be registered but is currently not.

If you want to have a look just drop your number off to us at Sparrows and we will past it on to George.

I am very surprised at the attention people pay to the truck, I suppose it appeals to the dreamer in people. We have had hard nosed truckies, whimsy hippies, suited accountants all stop and ask about the truck and many more besides.

So here is the history as I can piece it together. The truck its self is a 1944 International and was originally a fire truck in Queensland, where it stayed for nearly fifty years, barely and rarely used. George bought it had it put on the back of a truck and delivered to Beaufort where he constructed, carved & painted the truck. I forgot the Wooden Monkey.

As you can see George has an artistic turn in his nature, so it would come to no surprise that he paints and has exhibitions in various country galleries. So the story goes that after a number of unanswered phone calls to a purticualar gallery to get paid, George decide to go there in person. “Long story short” as the say in Beaufort they had gone broke and no money for George. Hmmm… So after a bit of discussion George got given a Wooden Monkey as payment, which now lives in the front seat of the Caravan.

So that is abrief history of the Gypsie Caravan of Beaufort and if you see George say hello he is a lovely fellow.

Umm…

So our neighbour is ” Beauforts Big Garage”, Jim runs it and has for eighteen years.

Jim has well, an interesting past, he certainly makes it sound very interesting. And with various nods and “ya know so i hears..” from the locals I am sure it is even more interesting than the truth could possibly be.

So with that said, he certainly works at his business and is always on the go and the stuff he sells “ya wouldn’t belive it”.

But Friday afternoon was the first time I saw naked ladys on the western Highway! For the moral safety of the kiddies “Bernadette” is now wearing a fetching dress. Just dont ask me about the bums.

No really… dont ask.
